After 17 years of working for the private sector, I started a new role for the state of Texas. I am the supervisor for the Texas Facilities Commission over all fire controls. Since August of 2015, I have had the task of dealing with just about every fire protection company in the city of Austin and surrounding areas. Though embarking on a new career endeavor has proved to be exciting, the dealings with the many companies and their service provided can be challenging to say the least.
I believe that every company has a face that is a representative for that company. When I think of every organization, a person’s face not a product or a company name comes to mind.
Over the years I have had the opportunity to work on almost every fire system imagined and EST has never been one of my favorites. The downloads take too long and the panels in my opinion are some of the most un-user friendly systems imaginable. I have learned in the 8 month period that I have been employed with the State of Texas that though the brand or line of product is important, customer service is imperative. I can truly say with all honesty that Sean Chandler provides us with a level of service that is almost unheard of with today’s standards. When given the smallest of tasks to the largest of projects, he always finds a way to come through for us. Through Sean, I have learned to appreciate EST products by the service that Beckwith provides.
It’s hard to imagine taking on the number of buildings and properties that we have without good people and sometimes it’s easy to overlook or take for granted the very people that make our business possible.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you of my experience with Beckwith Electronics. Beckwith’s construction team installed the fire alarm system in our 365,000 sqft. healthcare facility when it was built in 2007. With the installation came a 1 year maintenance/inspection agreement at which time they were able to work through any warranty issue that existed. Early on it was our intent to convert our maintenance/Inspection agreement over to Simplex at the end of the year to stay in line with the rest of our network. That was until we had the opportunity to work alongside the staff of Beckwith Electronics. It was quickly apparent that Beckwith was a cut above the others. Their quick response times, knowledgeable staff and most importantly, quality inspections and reports far exceeded anything we had experience with their competitors at other sites. They have been the sole service provider at our facility for the last 7 years and we look forward to many years of continued service provided by Beckwith Electronics.

What makes Beckwith special… its people. The fact is when you encounter a problem at the 11th hour, you don’t speak to voicemail, you speak to a person. That person cares as much about completing the project as you do. The AHJ at times might uncover code deficiencies in the field; Beckwith is always quick to respond, justify and/ or resurrect the issue. My name is Ursula Villarreal I am the director of Women’s Services at Harlingen Medical Center, Harlingen, Texas. We just had the Hugs Infant Security Installed now a month old. I just want to recognize what an awesome team you have. They were very professional, hard working staff, very efficient, they did not get in our way and always cleaned up after themselves. Thanks for providing such a quick response to the fire alarm problems the Fire Safety Systems shop encountered yesterday at PRC with the Edwards EST-3 system. I was glad to see Beckwith had all the modules in stock to implement the repairs. Please pass on a special thanks to Brent Peterson for returning the system to normal yesterday and helping me over the phone by reviewing the program equations after it was reported to me that the new Double Action Dry system failed to trip when tested this morning. The panel detected and executed the controls exactly as was discussed. When FSSS performed a retest, we found a poor connection at the solenoid was the cause of the problem.

During a past survey inspection of one of our CHRISTUS Santa Rosa facilities we were challenged on a regulatory code requirement pertaining to the Life Safety Code. We at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa knew we were in compliance but we were still questioned by the agency. For added “insurance”, we called Beckwith and explained our situation. Without hesitation, one of Beckwith’s engineers presented themselves to standby in support as we explained and confirmed by demonstration and training that we were indeed in compliance with the Life Safety Code. Beckwith’s willingness to make themselves available “at the drop of a hat” is evidence of the value added service they provide to their customers.
